Application process
A link to the online application form is sent automatically via email to students who receive an offer of admission to an eligible degree programme for the 2013/14 academic year.
Please wait at least 7 days from the date of your offer to receive this email.
If after 7 days you have not received the application link, please submit an online enquiryvia www.studenthelp.bham.ac.uk for the attention of the Student Funding Office, including your full name, University ID number and a brief description
The application is a web-based form which is submitted electronically to the University of Birmingham. If you experience any technical difficulties completing the form, please contact the Student Funding Office for advice:
·         Log an enquiry: www.studenthelp.bham.ac.uk
·         Tel: +44 (0)121 414 7391
Applications will be shortlisted and considered throughout June and early July.
Due the large number of applications normally received, we are unable to contact all applicants individually, therefore, only successful applicants will be notified in writing by the end of July. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide individual feedback for unsuccessful applications.
If you have not heard from the University by the end of July, please assume that your application for a scholarship was unsuccessful.

Who is eligible to apply?
All scholarship applicants must:
·         hold an offer of admission to an eligible one year Masters (taught or research) degree programme at the University of Birmingham;
·         be studying full-time and on-campus (not distance learning);
·         be classified as overseas for fees, i.e you are expecting to pay the international rate of tuition fees;
·         meet any nationality requirements, i.e some scholarships may require you to be a national of a particular country and/or living in a particular country or continent at the time of application;
·         not be in receipt of a full fee paying scholarship from any other source;
·         have sufficient funds to cover the full cost of living for a year at the University of Birmingham, plus any visa/travel expenses associated with studying in the UK.
·         be able to pay any outstanding tuition fees  that the scholarship does not cover.

What kind of information needs to be submitted?
The University considers applicants based on the information provided in the online application form. We also refer to undergraduate transcripts, undergraduate graduation certificates (if applicable) and any references submitted to the University as part of the admissions application. There is no need for applicants to submit any additional supporting documentation.
The online application form includes general questions about the applicant's academic background and includes short essay-style questions (250 word limit) about academic and extra-curricular achievement.
Due to the nature of the online application form, you will not be able to save and return to your form, therefore, we recommend saving your answers to the essay-style questions in a separate Word document available to download here:

Who are we looking for?
Last year we received around 800 applications; with only a relatively small number of scholarships available, those applicants who were ultimately awarded had a number of qualities which made them stand out.
Many of our previous scholars achieved first class undergraduate degrees, studied at top universities in their country, came top of their class or year group or had won prestigious academic awards.
In addition, applicants who were successful offered an outstanding record of achievement in other areas of their life; perhaps exceptional achievement in extra-curricular activities (such as in sport or music, managing events or societies), significant achievement gained in their working life or through volunteering and service to others.

What does the scholarship cover?
The Scholarships are tuition fee awards ranging from £5,000 up to the full cost of tuition for a Masters degree programme. Applicants must be able to cover the additional costs associated with studying at the University ofBirmingham, including living costs, travel to the UK and potentially any outstanding tuition fees (if the award is only a partial tuition fee scholarship).

What is the deadline for applications?
The deadline for receipt of applications is Friday 31 May 2013
Applications will not be accepted if they are submitted to the University after this date.
